We were walking home past the Salvation Army building at 277 Pirie St when my dog was subject to an unprovoked attack by an unrestrained dog (pictured - presumably a staffy x). I tried to pull my dog away but was too slow and the dog grabbed her near the throat and lifted her up.
Several men responded immediately and fought with the dog - I kicked it but it didn't even flinch. After a struggle, they were able to pull the dog off of my dog, who was bleeding from the mouth. Fortunately my dog's harness provided some resistance against the teeth and she was traumatised but only had minor injuries.
Police wouldn't respond as the dog was subsequently restrained and council wouldn't attend either (stating that it was a police matter). After making sure my dog was okay and safe at home nearby, I returned and got the dog's photo and registration tag details before taking my dog to the vet.
Incident has been reported to council and CCTV footage has been requested.
